CNIL: Debate about data leaks on the Cloud

In France, the CNIL is the national commission of computer science and liberties. Last year they published an article on the issue of private data protection on the cloud. In facts, the situation is not really clear about that. That’s why they lauch a study leaded by a wide range of professionnal to understand the risk of data leaks on the Cloud.

Cloud Computing is an interesting way to externalise: simple, pay as you consume, flexible. It’s a market of 4,5 billion $ with an annual growth of 20%. Most of the client are looking for cloud because this solution hide the complexity of information system and reduce significantly the cost of information system department.

Neelie Kroes, European Commission VP, told that data protection is a the main stake of cloud computing.

The CNIL wants to consider all the solution (legal and technical) to guarantee that personal data are protected according to economics stakes. This study concern only enterprise cloud solutions.
